The name game

The very day we came home from the doctor after finding out we were going to be blessed with a little boy we started talking names. Curt has 4 names- Curtis Wesley Ryan Turner, so four names were definitely an option. We discussed what we wanted his name to reflect and the names we were just crazy about. We wanted it to be a kid-like name but a name he'll like when he's older. So many factors to add in when picking out a name for a baby, I had a hard enough time naming Mylee and Maximus!

My father-in-law's name is William Michael and honestly besides my papaw and stepdad, he's the closest thing I have to a dad. Luckily he's a hard worker, honest, will do anything for his family, an all around great man, him and Curt are so much alike! I definitely wanted to incorporate "William/Michael" into my sons name.

Names we picked out? Maverick, Drake, Mason and Will. All fit great with Michael or William! Oh, the choices!... I loved the name William from the get-go, a lot of GREAT men in my family has the first name William along with my father-in-law. Even though I loved the name William, we decided on the name Mason Drake.

We've been pretty set on the name for months now but something just didn't feel right about it, the name didn't have significant meaning to us. I wanted to change it since forever ago it seems like but never had the courage to mention it to Curt seeing as how I'm the one who was dead set on picking out a name early anyway. But finally I decided I had to or my baby was gonna grow up with a random ole name.

I told Curt how I felt.. Can ya believe he felt the same way? lol, figures! We decided that we were stuck on the name William! We'd call him William, Will, Willie, etc.. So final decision? William Curtis Drake Turner! Four names just like his daddy and name after his papaw and daddy! Perfect! I'm SO happy with his name.

Tip? Never settle on a name or announce your kids name too early!

  1. I found you through Brenna and love your story!! When our daughter was born, we chose the name Caden Jainsley. Jainsley is a combination of her grandma's name and a little girl close to my heart. I wanted to name her Jainsley and swear I suggested it, but my other half denies that discussion. After she was born, I realized I always used her first AND middle name ALL the time (think Billy Bob, ha ha) I broached the topic of changing her name and when she was eleven months old, she went from Caden Jainsley to Jainsley Rae. She is now named after her Grandma, a special little girl and shares her Mama's middle name!
